From a young age, Vanessa Nichols dreamed of becoming a vet. It led to her carrying out work experience our veterinary practice in Whittlesford and later earning her qualifications.

Vanessa tripNow, Vanessa is now back to where it all began and has taken a position as lead vet at Village Vet in Whittlesford’s Station Road.

She said: “Having grown up locally and first visited the practice for work experience as a teenager, it is exciting to have come full circle in my career.

“It is great to have this opportunity to work in a fantastic, purpose-built practice which helps us to deliver the best possible care to our patients and clients.

“I am looking forward to collaborating with – and learning from – a group of brilliant, dedicated colleagues who share a passion for animal welfare and continuous improvement.”

Caring for pets in Whittlesford

As lead veterinary surgeon, Vanessa will be responsible for the practice’s high quality of care and will oversee a team of five vets. Along with diagnosing and treating pets, she will also take an active role in mentoring, teaching and supporting colleagues.

Our Whittlesford branch is Village Vet’s flagship primary care and first opinion practice. It offers services including surgery and dentistry and also offers keyhole laparoscopic surgery, nurse clinics and ophthalmology services. The practice provides routine appointments seven days a week and has access to support from other clinicians across Village Vets’ other sites.

Vanessa, who also holds a postgraduate Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice, added: “I believe in fostering a collaborative and learning-focused environment, where accessible, tailored clinical care and compassionate client service go hand in hand.

“I strive to lead by example, promoting best practices, continuous professional development and a culture of empathy and respect within the team.”

About Vanessa

Outside of work, Vanessa enjoys sports such as running, cycling and walking – passions which have seen her hike 800km across the Pyrenees in Spain and cycle 4,000km across New Zealand.

She is also a keen singer and chair of the local Wilbrahams’ Community Choir.
