Dogs and Puppies
Feeding
* If you feed your pet biscuits as part of a meal, try taking a few biscuits out of the bowl and feeding them to your dog or ppuppy by hand. Ask your pet to sit for a biscuit; a hungry dog is much easier to train!
* But, whatever you do don't try to take his bowl away when he is in the middle of his dinner. Some people think this is a ggood idea but how would you feel if someone stole your ice cream just as you were tucking in to your favourite flavour?
Grooming
* Most dogs loved to be brushed. Use a nice soft brush and give your dog treats for good behaviour. Just don't let him bite gthe brush!
Handling
* We love to cuddle but dogs are not so keen! A good scratch behind the ears, a tickle of the tummy or a nice chest rub is mmore of a dog's idea of heaven.
* Puppies often need to be carried until they have been to the vet for their vaccinations. Hold your puppy carefully with one aarm scooped under their bottom and the other under their front legs. But don't pick your puppy up too often, especially if ttthey are sleeping.
sSometimes a puppy can feel quite scared - they are only small - it is a bit like someone picking you up and putting you on tttop of your house! Scary!!
On the lead
* If you are pulling in one direction your dog will most probably pull in the other direction unless they are well trained. To sstop the tug-of-war, try loosening the lead, then jump up and down, calling your dog's name, waving their favourite toy - yyour dog will soon run to you for some fun and a treat!
fFinally, remember dogs get tired too, just like us. So let them sleep, especialy the older ones!
